Obituary for Anita G. Teal

Anita Josepha Geigenmüller Teal was born April 1, 1925 in Auerbach, Germany to Dr. Hermann and Mrs. Charlotta Perdueß Geigenmüller. Raised in the town of Rodewisch with her three sisters, Eva, Ursula, and Sybille, near the Erzgebirge Mountains, she grew up among the depredations and hardships of World War II.

Toward the end of the war, Anita attended interpreter school in Frankfurt, Germany. While studying in Frankfurt, she met William (Billie) Teal, whom she married in 1948. She returned with him to Gibson, North Carolina on Christmas Eve of that year. They raised three children and were married for 24 years until his passing in 1972.

In 1979, Anita met Thompson (Tom) Jones while working as an English translator at INA. Anita and Tom Jones were married in 1989 and the two enjoyed 42 wonderful years together.

Anita passed away peacefully at home on February 6th, 2022 in Gibson, North Carolina at the age of 96. She is survived by her husband Tom, her three children, Benny Teal (Jan), Monika Teal, Danny Teal (Lena), as well as by her three grandchildren, Natalie Jackson (Nathan), John Teal, and Will Teal, and two great grandchildren, William and Thomas Jackson, and many relatives in Germany.

Anita brought her German culture to America and shared her traditions and heritage with her family and friends. Anita was known for her charismatic energy and quick wit and she thrived on living a life full of adventure, dance, love, and travel. Anita’s greatest joy was her family, friends, and community, who will remember her for her warmth, her love, and her zest for life.

The family will hold a private celebration of her life.
