Obituary for Barbara Eason Chappell

Barbara Eason Chappell, 84, of Hamlet, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023 at her home.

She was born January 10, 1939, in Richmond County, daughter of the late James Martin Eason and Ethel Gold Eason.

Barbara was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hamlet, and was an active church member. She was married to her late husband for 49 years prior to his death in 2009. She worked with many companies in numerous capacities including the Hamlet Train Station news stand, Roses, Belk, Earl Covington Furniture, McLean Plumbing, concession trailer, and in the family business, Gerald Ind. She retired as “the mail lady” after working 15 years with the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier.

Barbara was known as a great cook and baker, even though many people may have never met her but enjoyed her cooking. She was always happy in the kitchen, whether at home, Marks Creek Presbyterian Church or First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Chappell.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Gary Chappell (Saundra), Robert Chappell, and Donald Chappell, all of Hamlet; bonus daughter, Rachel Brown (Doug) of Rockingham; granddaughter, Chasity Carlyle (Dale) of Rockingham; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Carter and Sean Young; brother, John Eason (Kay) of Matthews, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, Hamlet, with Rev. Gene Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church, Hamlet.
