Obituary for Donnie L. "Shorty" Gregory,Sr.
Mr. Donnie Leroy “Shorty” Gregory, Sr., 81, of Gin Mill Road, Hamlet, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020, at his residence.
He was born in Wake County, son of Hubert Columbus Gregory and Dorothy Matthews Gregory.
Mr. Gregory was a member of Springhill Wesleyan Church and a former conductor for CSX Railroad. He love to garden and always gave away more than he kept; he enjoyed cooking and was famous for his homemade BBQ! Most of all he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Buddy Gregory and Cecil Gregory; and his granddaughter, Danielle Stogner.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Upchurch Gregory of the home; daughter, Crystal Stogner (Stanley) of Elkin; sons, Donnie L. Gregory, Jr. (Patricia) of Sanford and Paul Gregory (Kathy) of Hamlet; sisters, Doris Sims of Angier, Hazel Matthews (Marshall) of Erwin and Karen McLamb (Billy) of Garner; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall at Springhill Wesleyan Church, Hamlet. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Guest are asked to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing due to Covid-19 restrictions.
