Evans Lamar Kitchens, of Hamlet, passed away at Pruitt Health, Rockingham on August 25, 2020; he was 79.
Evans was born September 7, 1940 in Washington County, GA, son of James and Lillian A. Kitchens.
Evans was a charter member of The Nazarene Church in Sandersville, GA. He spent thirty five years traveling thru 34 states, in the Harness Horse Racing business. He began with John Patterson Stables, Thomasville, GA, Billy Houghton Stables, Pompano Beach, FL. and ending his career with George Sholty Stables, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Evans was an avid Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves fan.
He loved and was loved by all, never meeting a stranger and always had a Lexington, Kentucky Horse story; he would give his last dollar to a complete stranger.
Surviving siblings are James Kitchen of Frederick, Colorado, Fred Kitchens of Cottageville, SC, Ann Burrows Page (Don) of Eutawville, SC, Curtis Kitchens of Hamlet, William Kitchens of Hamlet and Connie Smith (Jack) of Summerville, SC; many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, near Tennille, GA on September 12, 2020 at 10:00 am.
He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
