Obituary for Franklin Thomas "Tommy" Cooper

Mr. Franklin Thomas “Tommy” Cooper, 75, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 4, 2021 at his home in Hamlet, NC.

Tommy (known as Poppy to most) is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosalyn Thompson Cooper of their home in Hamlet; his daughter, Paige C. Campbell and her husband Chad of China Grove, NC; his son, Kevin Thomas Cooper of Huntersville, NC; four precious grandchildren, Carly Campbell, Cooper Campbell, Landon Cooper and Brooks Cooper; 4 granddogs, Elphie, Maggie, Ginger and Ozzie; and countless other friends and family.

Tommy proudly served his country as a member of the US Army Reserve. He was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church and was a retired Educator and Principal with the Anson County School System. In his spare time you would find “Poppy” on the beach with his 2nd family in Cherry Grove, SC or on the golf course. He was a true UNC Chapel Hill fan, and everybody could hear him cheering for his team whenever they played. Poppy was a true family man always doting on his wife, children and grandchildren. He never met a stranger, and he would do anything at anytime for anyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Born in Wadesboro, NC, on October 11, 1945, he was the son of the late James William Cooper and Effie Phillips Cooper. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Susan Cooper and his brother-in-law, Louis Coward. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Cooper and Jack Cooper; and his sister Peggy Coward. One day before Tommy’s death, his oldest granddog Reesey passed away. He just couldn’t let her go by herself.

There will be a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Fellowship United Methodist Church in Hamlet, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship United Methodist Church, 1200 McDonald Avenue, Hamlet, NC 28345.

Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory of Hamlet, NC is serving the Cooper Family.
