Glenda Renee Gilliam Smith, 42, of Marston, passed away peacefully at UNC, Chapel Hill, Monday, March 15, 2021, surrounded by her family as she left this life and entered into eternity.
She was born April 5, 1978, daughter of Glenn Talmadge Gilliam, Sr. and Beverly Jean Speedling.
Glenda fought a long hard battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She lived life to the fullest and made the most of every moment. Glenda taught us all how to live in the moment and to take nothing for granted. She loved her family, never met a stranger, was giving, loving and full of laughter. She will be missed and remembered for a lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Gilliam, Sr.; Beloved step-father, Larry Speedling, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Lillian Dennis; and paternal grandparents, Tom & Georgia Gilliam.
Survivors include her mother, Beverly Speedling; sisters, Debra Poston, Laura DeBerry, and Sherri Hunt; brothers, Sam Pitts and Glenn “JR” Gilliam; Bonus father, Ron Frink; Special Friend, Donald Currie; nephews, Michael Poston II, Ryan Hicks, Ben Pitts, Glenn Gilliam III, and Cameron Hunt; nieces, Kaitlyn Hunt and Caroline Pitts; and special niece and partner in crime, Haleigh Poston.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Place of Grace Campus, 252 School Street, Rockingham.
Visitation will be at the home of her mother, Beverly Speedling , 112 Lindow Drive, Marston, at 5:00 pm on March 16.
