Obituary for Hattie Epps Beck

Mrs. Hattie Epps Beck,83, of Hamlet, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at Hospice Haven.

She was born in Maxton, April 4, 1937, daughter of Matthew William Epps and Dora Lee Branch Epps.

Mrs. Beck graduated from Marion Franklin High School, Columbus ,Ohio in 1956,and in July 29, 1961 married Lacy Beck. She was a member of Marks Creek Presbyterian Church and she worked primarily as a homemaker, putting her family first and then, for a time, worked outside the home, from 1984-1997 at Owens Illinois. Hattie enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, cooking, sewing and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Mark A. Beck and Terry A. Beck; brothers, Graham Epps, Mark Epps and Edward Epps; and sisters, Sadie Dukes, Ruby Clark, Zelma Scott and Betty Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Lacy Beck; daughters, Jennifer Jackson (Stephen) and Nancy Smith (Mike); granddaughters, Amy Helms (Kevin) & Danielle & Gabrielle Jackson; grandson, Brandon Smith; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Julia, Isaac and Kenzie Helms; brothers, Clyde Epps (Estelle) of Maxton, Varsy Epps (Carolyn) of Red Springs, Joseph “Ike” Epps (Deborah)of Maxton and Lucius “Porkey” Epps (Vera) of Maxton; sisters, Arletha Epps, Dora Hoback (Kelly) & Geraldine Epps all of Maxton; and her many nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.

A Graveside service will be held at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ken Goins officiating. Burial will follow. Mask will be required as well as social distancing.
