Obituary for Jessie James Smith
Jessie James Smith 46 of Rockingham, on December 8th, 2020, won his nearly two-decade-long battle with diabetes and heart disease when he received his sweet victory over pain and suffering to dwell in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He now walks hand in hand through the streets of Glory with his wife and soulmate Angie Ammons Smith, who preceded him into eternal peace.
Jessie worked in the textile industry before his career as a truck driver was cut short by his illness. While Jessie immensely enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, he was often found riding through the countryside just enjoying the view with his beloved fur baby and constant companion, Gunner. Jessie was known for bringing laughter and joy to all who knew him. His sense of humor was only out measured by the size of his tender heart. He was known to generously dote on his many cherished nieces and nephews.
Jessie was preceded in death by his loving wife Angie Ammons Smith (Sissy/Pooh), his mother Judy Smith Gurganious, his father James Smith, sisters Janice and Vicky Smith. Our precious brother, uncle, and faithful friend Jessie will always be loved and treasured by his siblings (Rebecca Gibson, Daffy Collins, Peggy Broadwater, Gene Smith, and April Baucom), family, and friends. Jessie’s tender heart and childlike nature made him a gentle giant.
Jessie’s wake will be held on January 15th from 7:00pm-9:00pm at 601 Oak Avenue in Hamlet, NC.
