Obituary for Norma Jean Thompson

Norma Jean Thompson, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and nana, passed away on October 18th, 2023.

Norma was the daughter of Ila Mae Therrell and Carl Reynolds. She was born April 21st, 1944 and was the oldest of three siblings: Curtis Therrell, Wanda Potter (deceased), and Wanda Epling (deceased). She was of Baptist faith, attended Hamlet High School, and received her GED at Richmond Technical Institute.

Norma is survived by her husband, one month shy of 63 years, Sonny Thompson, and their three children: Wendy Tilley (Calvin), Sonya Moss (the late Pat), and Jamie Thompson (Micah). She worked various administrative jobs while raising their children. She had seven grandchildren: Brandon Tilley, Troy Moss, Dakota Tilley, Ava Thompson, Karee Thompson, Trevor Moss, and Garren Thompson. As well as one great-grandchild, Lily Moss.

Norma was loved by many and loved so many more. She adored cooking, doing taxes, absolutely conquering Solitaire, listening to Elvis Presley on repeat, and watching her favorite shows including General Hospital and The Golden Girls. Let’s not forget her favorite saying, “Hush, Sonny, it’s my turn to talk.”

A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet. The visitation will be Wednesday, October 25th from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be on Thursday, October 26th at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jeannie McLean officiating. We will continue the services at Richmond Memorial Park for entombment.
