Obituary for Sudie Turnage Howell

Sudie Turnage Howell, 88, of Hamlet, died Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

Sudie was born April 17, 1932 in Fayetteville, NC, daughter of Winford Jack Turnage and Naomi Bullard Turnage.

She was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church of Hamlet. Sudie was a master of traditional Southern cooking and enjoyed serving others around her kitchen table and at several lunch counters throughout the county prior to her retirement. Her family was the center of her universe. She spent countless hours with her children and grandchildren and loved each of them beyond measure.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J.B. Howell, her sisters, Marie Turnage Hodges and Zearlee Turnage Turner, and her brother, Enoch Monroe Turnage.

She is survived by her children, Larry Howell and wife, Donna of Gastonia, Terry Howell and special friend, Kathy Allred of North Myrtle Beach, Charlene Bailey and husband, Ricky of Hamlet; sister, Josephine Turnage Brigman and husband James Carlisle of Hamlet, grandchildren; Nicole Pait and husband Allen, Wendy Brigman and husband Ronnie of Hamlet, Jean Turnage of Hamlet, Lee Howell of Charleston, SC, Kristin Haigler and husband Chris, Darren Howell and wife Jessica, Meredith Barber and husband Will i; She was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Pait, and wife Brandi, Bailey Butler, Madison Brigman, Peyton Turnage, Aubrie Turnage, Ricki Claire Carter, Colby Howell, Matthew Pait, Madelyn Barber, Lily Haigler, Brooklyn Haigler, Jaxon Howell, Miles Haigler, Shelby Barber, Vivienne Howell, and Vail Howell; one great-great grandchild, Cali Pait.; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

Due to Covid-19, a graveside service will be held on Monday, December 28 at 2:00 at Richmond Memorial Park with the Reverend Stanley Stogner officiating.
