Obituary for Tammy Jo "TJ" Tanner McCullough

Tammy Jo “TJ” Tanner McCullough, 47, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at her residence.

She was born August 26, 1974, in Richmond County, daughter of the late Ernest Daniel Tanner, Jr. and Sammie Goodson Tanner.

Tammy, or TJ, as most of us call her, was well-loved by her family and friends. She was so very loving and caring and would go out of her way to lend a helping hand. She greatly enjoyed outdoor adventures and spending time with her family. She loved being on the water, playing pool, watching scary movies - or really any movie, laughing, and having a good time. If it was a nice day you might find her cutting the grass, and if you made a mess in her house you were in trouble. Clean freak was an understatement. Her children and grandchild meant the world to her and her sisters were a close second. In 2020, TJ suffered from a traumatic brain injury. Her family brought her home to love her in what they thought would be her final days. Mama Misty was adamant that she would not live her final days in a hospital with strangers. After a short time in home rehab, she started getting better against all odds. Her love of 90s music showed when she would sing the lyrics before remembering anyone. Next, a video of loved ones, especially her children and grandbaby, helped to recover her memory even more. We won’t talk about how much her sisters, her cousin, Vickie, and daughters were in her space pushing her to live. We will never forget the moment that she got to see Robbie. The love in their eyes was powerful. TJ recovered so well that she was able to live independently with Robbie.

TJ will be severely missed and sister week will never be the same without her - We love you #4.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Coffey; mother, Sammie Goodson; father, Danny Tanner; and step-father, Gene Coffey.

She is survived by her daughters, Alexis McCullough (TJ Pearson) of Hamlet, Macey McCullough of Fort Mill, SC; son, Christopher Robert “Robbie” McCullough; their father, Robert McCullough of Rockingham; and granddaughter, Willow Grace Herring; her sisters, Misty Lammonds (Tommy Horne) of Rockingham, April Kindrick (Grey) of Lacey, WA, Kristy Bingham (Joe) of Appling, GA, Samantha Bowyer (Larry) of Youngsville, NC, and Wendy Dudka (Craig Robbins) of Zebulon, NC.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 6:00-8:00pm at Harrington Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 2:00pm at Harrington Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Newton and Rev. June Grant officiating. Burial will be private with the immediate family.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Misty Lammonds, 536 Airport Road, Rockingham.

Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Tanner-McCullough family.
