Obituary for Thomas "Tommy" Ray Thompson
Thomas “Tommy” Ray Thompson, 75, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
He was born November 9, 1947, in Pinehurst, son of the late Lois Thompson Roscoe.
Tommy was self-employed as the owner of Tommy’s Fire & Safety for twenty-seven years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Hamlet. In previous years, he was also a fireman with Hamlet Fire Department and a former member of the Hamlet Lion’s Club. Tommy enjoyed fishing, camping, and loved the mountains. He also enjoyed listening to gospel and bluegrass music.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Thompson Roscoe; daughter, Tammy Thompson; grandson, Tyler Curtis Johnson; brother, Larry Roscoe; and sister, Dianne Thompson Swearingen.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of more than fifty-three years, Yvonne Mauldin Thompson of the home; daughters, Deborah Grooms (Tim) of Rockingham, Valerie Davis (Steve) of Hamlet, and Mary Fennel (Jeff) of Holly Springs; son, John Thompson (Judy) of Hamlet; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his faithful companion, his dog, Buster.
Visitation will be Monday, March 13, 2023 from 1:00-2:00pm at Second Baptist Church, Hamlet.
The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, at 2:00pm, with Pastor Drew Stables officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Northam Cemetery, Rockingham.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the family home, 136 Virginia Avenue, Rockingham.
